‘A Dream To Play With Patrick Mahomes!’ New Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy Reveals His Feelings The Moment He Was Drafted
Former Texas Longhorns speedster wide receiver Xavier Worthy is a Chief. And he couldn’t be happier.
Worthy spoke immediately after his appearance with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on stage in Detroit, and talked about the moment his phone rang and his confusion when he realized it was the Chiefs on the other end.
“To be honest, I really thought it was the Bills,” Worthy told Cory Mose with KVUE. “Then I saw KC was on the clock and I thought they might pick me later on, but they traded up and it was just an amazing feeling.
“Everybody wants to go play for Patrick Mahomes. It’s just like a dream to have a quarterback like Patrick Mahomes who improvises and gets you the ball and also how much he cares about the players. To be over there will be amazing.”
Worthy was the fifth wideout taken behind Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. (No. 4 to Cardinals), LSU’s Malik Nabers (No. 6 to Giants), Rome Odunze (No. 9 to Bears) and LSU’s Brian Thomas Jr. (No. 23 to Jaguars).
Worthy was also asked about how far he’s come since running track in high school to his arrival on the big stage at the NFL Draft.
“Never again with that cross-country stuff! It’s amazing to be with a Super Bowl contender.”
It sounds like Worthy won’t have to ever run cross-country again unless he just absolutely wants to.
