TV legend Eamonn Holmes issued some strong words on his return to GB News this week as he revealed he’d been back “in hospital” amid his ongoing health issues. The 64 year old TV star, who is married to Loose Women’s Ruth Langsford, has been battling debilitating chronic pain for the last few years.
Speaking on GB News on Tuesday, 13 May, Eamonn gave viewers an update during a segment about superbugs but didn’t specify the reason for his hospital visit. “I was in hospital the past week and the medication I was taking before I went into hospital compared to the medication I got in hospital made me keep saying, ‘just tell me, are you doing this for cost reasons, or medical reasons or does no one have a clue?” he said. “I kind of felt like no one had a clue at the end of the day.”
Eamonn made the admission during the show’s discussion on superbugs and Covid-19, and said he didn’t think medics were achieving the right balance in treating people’s pain, reports The Sun. “Medicine’s way of dealing with this is to say ‘oh we’ll not give you an anti-biotic or have half a headache tablet instead of a full headache tablet’,” he claimed. “That’s not the right way either.”
The TV veteran first discussed his battle with chronic pain back in 2021 after he was rushed to hospital and an MRI scan found he had a dislocated pelvis. The following year, he underwent back surgery to fix three slipped discs. After his op, however, he revealed he could no longer walk properly and sometimes needed a mobility scooter to get around.
Returning to his morning GB News show, Breakfast with Eamonn and Isabel, after his second back operation, he told viewers: “Basically, I can’t walk. I can do everything… everything above here [gesturing to his waist] works, but it’s the legs.” Last year saw him back on the surgeon’s table again for another back op, and his recovery was hampered when he fell down the stone stairs of the home he shares with Ruth, breaking his shoulder.
While he keeps his fans and followers up to speed with his intensive physio recovery programme, a recent post sparked fear after some mistakenly thought he had died. Posting a pensive-looking black-and-white photo to his social media, the GB News star captioned it: “A lot to think about….. one of those days.”
In response, one fan wrote: “Thought he’d died”, while another added: “So sad! ! A lovely man.”
