Patrick Mahomes Talks His ‘Homie’ Travis Kelce Dating Taylor Swift: ‘The Most Famous Woman in the World’
Patrick Mahomes is singing Taylor Swift‘s praises.
The 28-year-old Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, who was selected as one of the 2024 TIME100 Most Influential People, sat down for Complex Sports’ “I Got Time Today” game, where athletes respond to posts about themselves on social media.
One post on X (formerly known as Twitter) shown to Mahomes during the segment called the NFL star “the best QB in the league” and said he “has a chance to be the GOAT,” before writing, “but Time Magazine cover? Taylor Swift (I hate to say it) generated more revenue/buzz for the Chiefs by sitting her a– down in the box seats.”
In response to the post, Mahomes said, “That is true,” referring to Swift’s impact on the team’s viewership last season.
“But she was like the TIME Person of the Year a couple of months before that, so it’s really cool to be on the cover of TIME,” Mahomes continued.
The three-time Super Bowl champion added, “And it does help when your best friend and your homie’s dating the most famous woman in the world,” referring to the romance between his teammate Travis Kelce and Swift, both 34.
Mahomes’ interview segment also touched on his viral dad-bod — which Mahomes said “gives me the cushion that I need to take the hits” — and his commercial campaigns with Kelce.
“As far as a duo doing commercials, I think we’re at least top three,” Mahomes said.
And fans of Bravo’s series Summer House will be excited to learn that behind the camera during Mahomes’ interview was newcomer (and fan-favorite) West Wilson.
Wilson, 28, shared a photo with Mahomes after they taped the interview on social media.
Beyond the upcoming NFL season, when the Chiefs will defend their back-to-back NFL titles, Mahomes and Kelce are hard at work on opening their steakhouse, 1587 Prime, in early 2025.
Described as the “ultimate experiential dining destination,” the new restaurant will be located in the Loews Kansas City Hotel. The athletes partnered with Global hospitality group, Noble 33, to bring 1587 Prime to life.
In a statement, Kelce said, “We’re excited to be a part of this journey with Noble 33 to create a one-of-a-kind dining experience, and what better place to start than our very own Kansas City.”
